Getting Started
LoneWriter is a writing application designed for authors seeking technological power without compromising their privacy. This guide will walk you through the initial setup process so you can start your first novel in minutes.
Initial Setup Process
1. Environment Preparation
LoneWriter runs directly in your browser but requires a connection to a language model (AI) to enable its advanced features.
- Cloud: Recommended for fast setup. Requires an API Key.
- Local: Recommended for maximum privacy. Requires installing additional software such as Ollama or LM Studio.
2. Artificial Intelligence Configuration
Access the Settings menu within the application and configure your preferred provider.
- If using the cloud, see the API Keys section.
- If you prefer a local environment, see the Local Models section.
3. Creating a Project
Once the AI is configured, you can create your first novel. The system will ask for a title and an optional basic description.
Recommended Workflow
1. Immersion in Writing
Start writing directly in the Editor or transferring your current drafts. There's no need to have everything defined beforehand; LoneWriter lets you focus on the narrative from the very first second.
2. Real-Time Monitoring (MPC)
As you write, the Proposal Monitor (MPC) will automatically detect new entities (characters, locations, objects) and suggest adding them to the Compendium, allowing you to build your lore organically without interrupting your creativity.
3. Query and Analysis
Use the Oracle to resolve doubts about your own plot or the Nexus to visualize the network of relationships being woven throughout your work.
Next step
To enable these features, you must configure a connection to the AI through API Keys or using Local Models.
